Monday Learning: 5Q Boss Strategy

Tim had been struggling with his sales target for a long time. He was very worried about the upcoming performance evaluation, especially with the arrival of a new boss. To his surprise, the evaluation took only 15 minutes and he had a lot to think about. A month later, Tim not only finished the back-logged quota but also achieved his target for the next month.

How did the new boss achieve this turn-around? During the performance evaluation, the boss simply asked 5 questions:

  1. Tim, how is it going? (looked at the sales data)
  2. What you are learning?
  3. What are your goals?
  4. How can I help?
  5. How am I doing as a helper? (rating 1-10)

This week, let’s try to use the 5Qs when we need to ‘boss’ someone do his job.
