To commemorate ANZAC Day here, local Aussie and Kiwi expatriates in teams of two will battle it out against each other in traditional style, with a game of Barefoot Bowls – the Australian version of lawn bowls made casually popular in the last decade where players take off their shoes to play.
ANZAC Day commemorates the tragedy of the Australian and New Zealand armies at Gallipoli where the soldiers fought bravely during the First World War, but were defeated at the hands of the Turkish army. In Australia and New Zealand, people will begin the day with a dawn service in remembrance of the lost lives but as the day progresses, merrymaking with friends and family eventually take over. It is this spirit of celebration and camaraderie that Boomarang intends to create for the local Aussie and Kiwi expat community during their Barefoot Bowls event.
Also happening in the afternoon is a typically Aussie ‘sausage sizzle’ and the AFL ANZAC Day clash will be shown on Boomarang’s four big screens at around 5pm. Night-time will see topline DJ Sean Lavan playing true-blue classics.
