Very Important Things to Know Before You Visit Singapore
When you visit Singapore, never carry goods for other people. If the goods are or contain dutiable, controlled or prohibited items, YOU will be held responsible. Under the Singapore law, the penalty for the illegal importation of controlled drugs such as heroin or morphine is death.
Do not take any chances; I have a friend who took a bag once which contained heroin. Fortunately he was on a outbound flight out of Singapore.
Under the Singapore law, you are required to open, unpack and pack your baggage when the checkpoint officer wishes to conduct an examination of your baggage. This is to give you full control over the entire proceeding. You can determine the manner of the opening, unpacking and packing of your personal belongings. This would also prevent any unintentional damage to your baggage or belongings.
Duty free policy at Changi. Travelers coming to Singapore are entitled to duty-free allowance for spirits, wine and beer only. You will probably buy things at Singapore during which you have to pay GST, but don’t worry, you can claim GST back. Check out GST refund guide here.
Cash. If you take into or moving out of Singapore over SGD 30,000, you need to file a report.
Controlled goods. With your common sense, you should be able to tell what you should not take into Singapore; but, maybe you don’t know you are not allowed to bring in even toy guns or swords. You may get yourself into a little trouble if you do.
