The Istana grounds are open to the public annually in celebration of the following occasions:
- Chinese New Year
- Deepavali
- Hari Raya Puasa
- Labour Day
- National Day
The next Istana Open Houses in 2009 have been scheduled for:
- Sunday, 2 August 2009 (to celebrate National Day)
- Sunday, 20 September 2009 (to celebrate Hari Raya Puasa)
- Sunday, 18 October 2009 (to celebrate Deepavali)
Admission to the Istana grounds is free for Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents. Others, including foreign visitors, are required to pay an entrance fee of $1 per person. Entrance to the grounds is via the main gate at Orchard Road. Opening hours are usually from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm.
