Songsmith: A Tool Worth Trying for Singapore Idol Participants [Music]

songsmithSongsmith generates musical accompaniment to match a singer’s voice. Just choose a musical style, sing into your PC’s microphone, and Songsmith will create backing music for you. Then share your songs with your friends and family, post your songs online, or create your own music videos.

Get your first taste of songwriting just by singing into a microphone, then explore different styles and arrangements, even if you don’t know the first thing about music theory.

Songwriters can use Songsmith as an “intelligent scratchpad” to work with new melodies, quickly turning your scratch recordings of new ideas into richer, deeper explorations. Musicians can also play instruments right into Songsmith, instead of singing.

Songsmith includes thirty musical styles, from Rock to Hip-Hop to Country to Jazz. We’ve tried to span the landscape of musical styles so you can explore a variety of songs, and so a wide variety of folks can enjoy Songsmith. And if you want even more breadth, we’ve partnered with PG Music – makers of Band-in-a-Box – to allow you to expand your collection of styles by purchasing more styles from PG Music.

Just open up Songsmith, choose from one of thirty different musical styles, and press record. Sing whatever you like – a birthday song for Mom, a love song for that special someone (they’ll be impressed that you wrote a song for them!), or maybe just try playing with your favorite pop songs. As soon as you press “stop”, Songsmith will generate musical accompaniment to match your voice, and play back your song for you. It’s that simple.
