This year, mid-autumn festival 2011 falls on September 12.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is a popular East Asian celebration of abundance and togetherness, dating back over 3,000 years to China’s Zhou Dynasty.

Free Public Concert: SingaPop! Promontory@Marina Bay

SingaPop!, a free public concert, will be staged at the Promontory@Marina Bay on August 20.

EDB has added a musical concert to its list of events to mark its 50th anniversary. Some of the artistes performing at the SingaPop! concert include ‘a-go-go’ queen Sakura Teng from the 1960’s, Vernon Cornelius, Kit Chan, Olivia Ong and indie pub band, Jack & Rai.

Members of the public who wish to attend the concert will need to register on www.singapop.sg for ticket balloting. Registration starts on Friday, July 8 (12:00pm) and ends on Monday, Aug 8 (11:59pm).

“SINGAPOP! – 50 years of Pop Music in Singapore” conceptualised by Dick Lee, is the largest gathering of past and present home-grown pop music talents performing on stage in Singapore. The concert will pay tribute to 50 years of pop music development in Singapore, in parallel with 50 years of Singapore’s economic development.

For the first time in Singapore, SingaPop! features a stellar line-up of Sakura Teng, Ling Xiao, Rahimah Rahim, Tokyo Square, Kit Chan, Dick Lee, Taufik Batisah, Ah-Do, Olivia Ong, Douglas Oliverio, John Molina and many more, complemented by a Superband of top musicians, dancers and a bold, vibrant multimedia extravaganza.

Please be warned that parking at peripheral roads around the Central Promontory area to watch the concert is strictly prohibited. Illegally parked vehicles will be fined and towed away. Take the following buses to get there or get a cab:

Gaga decided to fly to Singapore earlier than scheduled to prepare for her next promotion here, because she was very tired after a concert in Taichung on Sunday, said Universal Music Taiwan.
