Less Health Subsidies for Singapore PR

Government has decided to reduce health subsidies given to Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs) by 10% points.

Singapore citizens are still entitled to an 80% subsidy for a Class C ward. But PRs will be entitled to 60% of cost, down from 70%. [click to continue…]

The KissSingapore Social Development Unit – Social Development Service announces its new name – the Social Development Network (or SDN), as well as plans to extend its reach to all singles, linking them to a wider network of partners for dating services, events and information. In collaboration with private dating agencies, SDN will also be providing a sampler dating package for singles.

Merged on 28 January 2009, the Social Development Unit and Social Development Services have been operating under the interim name of SDU-SDS. Now it has its new name – called the “Social Development Network” or “SDN” in short. By 2010, public officers will enjoy an agile infocomm environment that promotes innovation and enhances productivity at work, with the establishment of a Standard ICT Operating Environment (SOEasy) for the public sector.

The SOEasy will enable public officers to work together as One Government and improve overall operational efficiency in the public sector. Emphasizing this outcome, Mr Lim Hup Seng, Deputy Secretary (Performance) of the MOF said, “SOEasy will allow more than 60,000 public officers to enjoy a robust, connected, innovative and agile infocomm environment.” [click to continue…]

Under the current framework, IRAS considers the facts and circumstances of each case to determine if the individual owner concerned should be subject to income tax on the property disposal gains. In practice, IRAS has assessed gains from property disposals to be taxable income for only a small number of individuals – typically those who regularly transact in property.

Under the proposal that was put up for public consultation, individuals who sold their properties would be certain that the gains they made would not be subject to income tax if they had not sold any other properties in the preceding four years. Under all other circumstances, whether the gains from a property sale were subject to income tax would have continued to depend on the facts and circumstances of the case.

Enhanced Additional CPF Housing Grant Quanta

Households earning up to $5,000 a month can now look forward to more help to buy their first home. The Minister for National Development announced in Parliament today the details of the enhanced Additional CPF Housing Grant Scheme to help first-timers buy a home.

AHG is an additional subsidy over and above the regular market subsidy and CPF Housing Grant that new and resale flat buyers enjoy respectively. It offsets the purchase price of a new or resale HDB flat, thereby further reducing the loan a flat buyer needs to take. The nation’s parliament passed a bill yesterday that will allow people with debt of as much as S$100,000 ($66,600) to work out a repayment plan with their creditors without being declared bankrupt, avoiding what the government calls the “attendant disabilities and social stigma” that come with insolvency.
