Google Maps Singapore
At least, it’s an exciting news to me. Singapore is the first country in the world to launch a comprehensive range and nation-wide coverage of land travel planning tools, from walking to public transit to traffic, on Google Maps.
Commuters and motorists can now better plan their trips on Google Maps through a unique collaboration between Google and LTA. Mapping, directions and route planning for various forms of land transport modes – from buses to trains to cars to even by walking – are now all available for free on Google Maps. As announced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on 29 August 2009, the electronic day licence (e-Day Licence) will replace the current paper licence from 23 November 2009 when an Off-Peak Car (OPC) is used during restricted hours.
Where to Buy e-Day Licences
From today, OPC owners can buy the e-Day Licences for use from 23 November 2009. Senior citizens can expect to cross with greater ease with longer green man time when they use selected signalised pedestrian crossings from 1 October 2009.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be launching the Green Man Plus initiative at five locations with nearby health facilities and transport nodes. When activated, senior citizens will have up to five seconds more green man time when crossing the road using signalized pedestrian crossings. This initiative addresses the needs of elderly pedestrians who may require more time to cross the road. [click to continue…]

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) urges any ez-link card holders who have yet to replace their old cards to do so before the 30 September 2009 deadline. Commuters will not be able to use the old ez-link cards after this date.
The free one-for-one card replacement began at the start of 2009 on 9 January. With 90% of public transport trips already being made with CEPAS-compliant cards, the majority of public transport commuters are already using the new CEPAS-compliant cards. 4.3 million ez-link cards have already been exchanged for new CEPAS-compliant cards.
Card holders, who have not exchanged their current ez-link card by 30 September 2009, will need to purchase a new CEPAS-compliant card for travel on public transport. The CEPAS-compliant ez-link card costs $15 (i.e. card cost of $5 and a $10 stored value) and can be purchased from all Passenger Service Centres and Ticket Offices. However, card holders can still get a refund on any remaining value in their old card up to 12 years from the date the card is first issued.

A series of F1 road closures affecting the Marina Centre area will take place from 23 September 2009 to 29 September 2009 to facilitate the setting up and dismantling of the race infrastructure. You can view the map here.
The road closures for F1 will be implemented in phases to minimize disruption to the public. To ensure business continuity for establishments in the Marina Centre area, a limited number of pre-assigned passes have been given to the stakeholders to allow them access to their buildings via roads with restricted access control. A piece of ST news caught my attention, “3,821 caught in first six months, up from 2,070 in same period last year”. I think you’d like to hear about the “fine” part, “Jaywalkers can be fined $20 on the spot. If charged and convicted in court, they may be fined up to $1,000 and face a jail term of up to three months.”
It is an offence for pedestrians to walk across bus parking areas at interchanges and terminals. [click to continue…]
