The Barclays Asia Trophy 2009 is the fourth edition of the Premier League Asia Trophy, a four-team football (soccer) tournament held every two years. Hull City, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and the local Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan will be competing for the title on 29 July and 31 July in the Workers Stadium, Beijing.
The competition uses a knock-out format. Tottenham Hotspur were the first team through to the final after a 1-0 win over West Ham United on Wednesday. Jermain Defoe’s second-half goal after a mistake from Robert Green was just reward for a dominant Spurs side.
They will meet either Hull City or Beijing Guoan in the final, with that semi-final also being played on Wednesday.
Final kick-off times to be confirmed. All matches will be broadcast locally in China, in the UK by Sky Sports and around the world.
The four team knock-out tournament is held over two match days on 29th July and 31st July in Beijing, with a final to determine the winner and a play-off to decide third place.
All matches take place in the Workers Stadium and 49,000 tickets will be on sale for each match day. The tournament will be officiated by Barclays Premier League and Beijing Football Association match oficials, and staged in accordance with Barclays Premier League Rules.
The Barclays Asia Trophy is one of the headline events at the inaugural 2009 Beijing Football International Festival.
