Accessing the Wi-Fi hotspots has been simplified, where users can now seamlessly login using the Wireless@SG app (one-time setup required) on supported smartphones and tablets without the need to enter their login credentials (user ID and password), and be able to automatically connect all the time. For foreign visitors, they are now able to perform account registration at any Wireless@SG hotspot and an OTP will be delivered to their foreign mobile numbers.
What is Wireless@SG?
Wireless@SG was launched in December 2006 by IMDA to accelerate the deployment of high-speed wireless broadband, promote wireless broadband lifestyle amongst citizens and those residing in Singapore, and catalyse the wireless broadband market in Singapore. Since its launch, Wireless@SG has successfully catalysed Singapore’s wireless broadband market and spawned an “always connected” culture amongst Singaporeans.
Beginning from April 2014, consumers get to enjoy faster basic access speed of at least 5 Mbps. The number of hotspots will also double to 20,000.
The Wireless@SG programme currently adopts a federated model in which Wireless@SG hotspots are sustained commercially between venue owners and Wireless@SG operators. The federated model also enables seamless roaming across the Wireless@SG hotspots deployed by different operators. IMDA, as the programme owner, ensures consistent user experience by stipulating standards for identity management, login and security.
Over the years, Wireless@SG has implemented several enhancements whichfocus on enhancing consumer experience and enterprise adoption. Some of these enhancements include the introduction of EAP-SIM (using SIM card credentials to connect to Wireless@SGx network), launch of the Wireless@SG app to facilitate easier log on and auto-connection, faster surfing speed (minimally 5Mbps), replacing login with SMS OTP (instead of user name and password) to support both local and foreign mobile numbers, more hotspots etc. Some of the hotspots include public transport facilities/MRT stations, malls, hawker centres and community centres.

Wireless@SG for Business
Businesses and venue owners who desire to provide free Wi-Fi to their patrons are encouraged to partner operators to extend Wireless@SG service within their premises on commercial arrangements.
Services such as targeted advertising, office communication suite and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) are some of the services that the operators could offer. These are on top of the existing enterprise services such as advertising, location-based services, cashless payments, and facility monitoring.
By being on-board of the Wireless@SG programme, they can leverage on Wireless@SG’s standardised and secured login mechanisms (i.e. SIM Login). In addition, they could also achieve cost efficiency to access their own enterprise services over the same Wireless@SG network.
